Utamu was born from a shared dream: to give Africa's coffee heritage the stage it deserves. Founded in 2023 by Clarisse, Révérien, Régis, and Roger, we opened our doors in Liège with a conviction — that the richness of Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi, and Kenya could reshape how Europe experiences coffee.

We bypass intermediaries to pay producers fairly. We blend African authenticity with European patisserie sophistication. Every Amandazi beignet, every single-origin pour, every detail of our space is an invitation to cross borders without leaving your seat.

We source exclusively from East Africa's finest growing regions — working directly with small-scale producers who invest in sustainable agriculture. Roasted in Belgium by OR Coffee to preserve every nuance of terroir.

Can I work from UTAMU with a laptop?

Yes, in both houses. Wi-Fi is free and there are power sockets at most tables. In Brussels we ask that laptops be closed between 12:00 and 14:00 so tables stay available for people having lunch — outside that window, stay as long as you like.

Is UTAMU wheelchair accessible?

UTAMU Brussels has step-free access from Place Jean Rey and an accessible toilet on the ground floor; the mezzanine is only reachable by stairs. UTAMU Liège has a small step at the entrance — let us know when you arrive and we will help. If you have specific needs, email us beforehand and we will prepare the room.

Do you have vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free options?

Every menu has vegetarian options, and most of our drinks can be made with oat or coconut milk at no extra charge. We always have at least one vegan savoury plate. Some pastries are gluten-free, but our kitchen also handles flour, so we cannot guarantee a gluten-free environment. Please tell a member of the team about any allergy before ordering.

Can I order take-away?

Yes. All our coffees, teas and cold drinks are available to take away, along with pastries and the savoury plates of the day. Bring your own cup and we will fill it.

Can you accommodate groups?

Small groups are always welcome. In Liège, book through our online reservation link — everything is explained there. In Brussels there are no table reservations, so for a larger group send us a special request and we will come back to you with a tailored proposal.

Can I hire the mezzanine in Brussels?

Yes. The mezzanine in Brussels is a separate floor that can be hired for team meetings, workshops, tastings, dinners and private celebrations, with a menu built with you. Send a special request with your date and number of guests and we will come back with a proposal.

Do I need to book a table?

It depends on the city. UTAMU Liège takes table reservations — use the reservation link on this page. UTAMU Brussels is walk-in only, first come, first served; we only plan ahead for team buildings, mezzanine hire, private events and catering.

How far in advance should I order catering, and is there a minimum?

Everything is made to measure. Tell us the date, the number of guests and what you have in mind — by email or phone — and we will send you a personalised proposal. There is no fixed minimum or standard lead time, but the earlier you write, the more we can do.

Do you deliver, or do I collect my order?

We do not ship at the moment. Orders from the online shop are collected free of charge in one of our two houses, in Liège or in Brussels — simply choose your pick-up point when you order.
